History

Volunteer coaches provide art workshops and lessons to patients inside Childrens Hospital LA. CoachArt hosts a 1 1/2 to 2 hour activity inside the Hospital. The workshops rotate between playrooms and clinics to reach various patient populations at the hospital. CoachArt volunteers bring fun, creative activities to the children as they undergo treatment. CoachArt workshops offer a unique diversion from the normal day to day of children in the hospital. Volunteers create one-of-a-kind projects using their personal backgrounds and expertise to conduct special activities apart from what is normally available to patients in the playrooms. The workshops truly become something that is anticipated and looked forward to by patients. If children are in isolation and cannot attend a workshop in the playroom, hospital staff can assist CoachArt volunteers in bringing the activity to the patient's bedside.

Often, children experience fear, boredom, frustration, and a loss of control while they are staying at the hospital. For admitted patients as well as their visiting siblings, these workshops provide both a stimulating experience and exposure to a new activity. It is hoped that children can find a temporary solace in their projects while working with CoachArt volunteers. Upon leaving the hospital, many of these patients are eligible to participate in the Outpatient Coaching Program.
