History

CoachArt provides cultural, educational and recreational activities in the community to patients and their families at no cost. These trips give our students the ability to participate in new activities and achieve goals that they believed were impossible. They gain a new sense of self-confidence as they learn teamwork, dedication, and how to overcome their fears.

 

Winter/Spring Special Events

Ski Trip in Big Bear, California - In partnership with United States Adaptive Recreation Center and Teen Impact, CoachArt gives adolescents living with cancer the opportunity to learn to snow ski. Professional ski instructors are provided to all students. For students with limited mobility, special equipment is available so that all teens can participate, regardless of their abilities.

Movie Team
- In partnership with Hollywood Heart, CoachArt offers teens the ability to participate in a movie making workshop. In one weekend, students are taken through the process of planning, filming and starring in their own short film. After the movie is edited, students are invited to a premiere of their movie in a professional studio screening room. illness.

 

Winter/Spring Special Events

Buses for Baseball - The Major League Players Association sponsors CoachArt for a night at a Dodger's Game. Students are invited onto the field prior to the game to meet the athletes. During the game, the children are treated to food and their pictures of the jumbo screen.

Museum of Contemporary Art Workshop - Arts educators from MOCA visit patients in the hospital setting for a series of creative workshops based on the work from MOCA exhibits. These children participate in creating their own artwork. Later, they are invited to an educational tour of the exhibits at the museum.

Summer Camping Trip in Big Bear, California - In partnership with United States Adaptive Recreation Center, CoachArt gives patients living with cancer the opportunity to rough the wilderness for two-nights. They enjoy team-building games around the campfire at night. During the day, they learn to water ski, jet ski, fish, kayak and sail. For students with limited mobility, special equipment is available so that all teens can participate, regardless of their abilities.
