Los Angeles CoachArt Program Announces Inaugural Exhibition

For most children battling a life-threatening illness, a Downtown exhibition of their artwork would seem like a far-fetched, unlikely dream. But for the children in Los Angeles’s CoachArt program, this wish is about to become reality. On May 2, 2009 from 6-10pm Lahoda Fine Arts gallery will host the first CoachArt exhibition – “Get Your Heart In The Game” – showcasing the work of 11 children, alongside that of their professional coaches.
The CoachArt program provides free, personal lessons in the arts for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, matching each child with a qualified, volunteer mentor. “Get Your Heart In The Game” showcases photography, drawing, painting and clothing design produced by CoachArt children aged 6-19, all of which are undergoing inpatient or outpatient treatment in Los Angeles, as well as the professional art work of their mentors.
Volunteer coach, Jennifer Lafferty is a professional graphic designer and owner of event management company, Maven Design House, and has been working with CoachArt children for the last year. “CoachArt is not only the highlight of these children’s weeks, but also the highlight of mine. “It is so rewarding to spend time with these children who show such positivity, despite the hardships they face day-to-day”, says Ms. Lafferty. I am so proud of the work they have produced, and I’ve got to tell you, some of these six year olds are giving their mentors a run for their money!”
“CoachArt brightens the lives of these children and their families, enhancing hope, creativity, confidence and self-esteem”, says Lahoda Fine Arts owner, Daniel Lahoda. “I am thrilled to give these children the opportunity to exhibit their work alongside that of their professional mentors and can’t wait to see the smiles when they arrive and see their work in a professional gallery space.”
The “Get Your Heart In The Game” exhibition will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 6pm – 10pm at Lahoda Fine Arts Gallery, 1855 Industrial St. #104 Los Angeles. Sponsors include Lahoda Fine Arts, Jet Set Graffiti, Maven Design House, Urth Caffe, and Ellis Paint Company. Entry is by donation and all proceeds will benefit CoachArt programs.
