Stephanie

At the age of 11, Stephanie was diagnosed with Leukemia and began intensive chemotherapy. She began to suffer from anxiety attacks and depression due to the pain and side effects of the treatments. Since she joined the program in 2005, CoachArt has been a huge part of Stephanie’s recovery.  CoachArt came into Stephanie’s life during a difficult, confusing and desperate time. Her family needed something to keep some normalcy in Stephanie’s life while she dealt with this life-threatening disease.  It was important for Stephanie to be able to do things kids her age were doing, and not feel like she was different because of her illness.  At one point in her treatment, Stephanie told her family that CoachArt helped her fight her cancer and take a stand against the disease so she could do all the things her heart desired.

Missaira

Missaira joined the CoachArt program as a shy 15 year old girl, born with multiple congenital anomalies. In her young life, she had undergone more than a dozen major reconstructive surgeries to her face and body.  On her CoachArt application, Missaira expressed interest in learning to play the violin so CoachArt partnered her with an experienced violinist.  Missaira instantly showed a natural talent for the instrument.  After 3 months of private lessons, she felt ready to take lessons at one of CoachArt’s partnering music schools, The Silverlake Conservatory of Music.  She has continued with lessons, interrupted occasionally by additional surgeries. Her CoachArt lessons give her something to look forward to as she heals and have had an amazing impact on her confidence and self-esteem.

Hannah

When Hannah was 14 years old, she was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. While she endured the emotional and physical side effects of her treatment, she joined CoachArt and began taking voice lessons. These lessons gave her something to take her mind off of going to multiple doctor appointments, awaiting surgeries and feeling sick after treatments and helped her to get back to what life was like before her diagnosis.
